An interiors studio gets named by ChatGPT for a locality when a page on its own website says, in the first two sentences, that it designs homes in that locality, shows a real address or a finished project there, and answers the questions a homeowner actually asks: what a 3BHK costs per square foot, how long the work takes, and what is included. AI engines assemble a locality answer from whatever they can read that morning. On 18 September 2026 we read what they can read for Jubilee Hills and Kompally, and the independent studios were barely in the room.

BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey, published 10 March 2026, found 45 percent of consumers had asked an AI tool for a local business recommendation in the past year, up from 6 percent the year before, with ChatGPT the most used at 31 percent. The first cold enquiry Vridhii received from an interiors studio this month said ChatGPT sent them, so we went looking for how the engines decide which studio to name.

Who is on the first page for a Hyderabad locality right now?

Chains, directories and one builder. We ran two queries on the morning of 18 September 2026, interior designers Jubilee Hills and interior designers Kompally, and counted the 18 first page results. Ten were locality pages belonging to national chains: HomeLane held three, DesignCafe and Livspace two each, and NoBroker, D'LIFE and Decorpot one apiece. Three were directories, Sulekha twice and Justdial once. One was a listicle by Mak Homes Construction, a Puppalguda builder, which placed its own firm second on its list of five. Only four were an independent studio's own page, and we read all four end to end.

Pancham Interiors held a page on both queries. Both pages carry geo coordinates in the head pointing to Bengaluru, list two Bengaluru addresses in the footer, and show testimonials from Purva Venezia and Mantri Tranquil, which are Bengaluru apartment projects. SB Interior Solutions has a Jubilee Hills page with a Miyapur address at the bottom, image alt text naming Banjara Hills, and no Jubilee Hills project named anywhere on it. Roshan Design Studio, which the engine summarised for Kompally, returned no readable text to a plain fetch of its homepage on 18 September, so a reader that does not render scripts has nothing to quote. That is the count: four studio pages, none with an address in the locality named in the title, two with coordinates in another state.

Where did the names in the answer come from?

From the builder's listicle. The summarised answer for Jubilee Hills named seven firms, and two of them, Morph Design Co. and De Panache, had no page of their own anywhere in the field. Both names were lifted from the Mak Homes post. A Puppalguda builder wrote a list to rank itself, and the engine treated it as the authority on who designs homes in Jubilee Hills. The studios that did write a locality page, Pancham and SB, were in the links and absent from the written answer.

This is the same pattern we documented on the Hyderabad agency queries in our listicle experiment report: when nobody in a category publishes a specific, readable page, the engine quotes whoever published a list. For interiors the gap is wider, because the studios with delivered homes in Kokapet or Kompally mostly have an Instagram grid and a one page site with a contact form.

What does the engine need from a studio's page?

Facts it can lift, in sentences, near the top. Steady Demand's AI Citation Ledger, collected on 30 July 2026 and verified on 20 August 2026 across 14,472 citations in 1,487 local service queries, found that 59.9 percent of Gemini's local citations pointed to the business's own website, ahead of Reddit at 13.7 percent and general directories at 10.4 percent. The source with the most weight is the one the studio already owns.

The D'LIFE Kompally page is the model, and it belongs to a chain. It names the showroom, Atharv Pride, Plot No 5, near Trends Showroom, Devender Colony, Kompally, 500100, embeds the map, states the handover window at 40 days, and lists three package prices with what each covers. A homeowner reads it and knows where to go, what it costs and how long it takes. An engine reads it and has five facts to lift. Pancham's Jubilee Hills page, by comparison, offers "modern-style luxury interiors at affordable prices" and a Bengaluru phone number.

A studio's locality page should do four things in this order. Open with one sentence that names the locality and the kind of home you design there, then a second that gives the honest cost band per square foot for your work, not the market's. Name one delivered project in that locality by community or street, with the budget band and the timeline, because a named project is the one thing a chain page cannot fake. Show the address you actually operate from, and if it is not in the locality, say so. Close with three to five questions in the words a homeowner uses on WhatsApp, and mark them up as FAQPage so the facts are machine readable. Our interior designer playbook for Hyderabad covers the wider system; this page is the piece that gets you named.

Which locality should a Hyderabad studio write for first?

The one where you have already delivered a home, not the one with the most searches. A page for Jubilee Hills with no Jubilee Hills project on it is a doorway page, and it will sit in the links behind the chains exactly where Pancham sits today. The villa belts of Kokapet and Narsingi, the gated communities along Medchal Road, and the independent house renovations around Sainikpuri and Alwal each have a different buyer and a different cost band.

How will you know it worked?

Not from one run. The same Steady Demand study found Gemini named the same business on a repeated identical query about 7 percent of the time, against roughly 90 percent for Google's local pack. Answers are sampled fresh each time, so one mention proves nothing and one absence proves nothing. Run your locality query weekly in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode, and log the link, the mention and the page used as three separate columns. We set out the full method in how to check whether AI search cites your business. Our tracker ran its first two interiors queries this morning, and neither returned a single Hyderabad studio's own site. The field is open.

Key takeaway: On 18 September 2026, four of 18 first page results for Jubilee Hills and Kompally interiors queries belonged to an independent studio, and none of the four showed an address in the locality it was titled for. The engine named studios from a builder's listicle instead. A page that states the locality, a delivered project, a cost band and an address in its first hundred words is what none of them have.

This is one chapter of the Marketing Operating System we run for every client, the part where the pages that carry a brand's name into AI answers are built from delivered work rather than from keywords. If you would rather have a team handle this, Vridhii Digital builds growth systems for founders who care about results. For a studio that means the brand and portfolio work that makes a project worth naming and the inbound system that turns a locality page into enquiries, with the SEO and AIO work measured weekly against the tracker.

Frequently asked questions

We have an Instagram with 8,000 followers. Is a website page really necessary?

Yes, for AI answers. The engines cite the business's own website more than any other source, and they cannot read an Instagram grid. Keep the grid as the closer, and give the engine one readable page per locality you have delivered in.

Should we publish our price per square foot on the page?

Publish your band, with what it includes. The chain pages already publish package prices, and a homeowner comparing you against them will assume the worst if you say nothing. A stated band filters the wrong enquiries and gives the engine a fact to quote.

Can we write one page that lists every locality in Hyderabad?

You can, but it will not get you named for any of them, because a page listing twelve localities says nothing specific about one. Write for the two or three where you have a finished home to name, and add pages as you add projects.

How long before ChatGPT starts naming us?

Budget six to twelve weeks from publishing, and treat a single mention as noise. Our first category return on an agency query arrived 23 days after publishing. Check weekly, log link and mention separately, and report only what has held across three consecutive checks.
