Between July and September 2026, Indian searches for the phrase AI marketing fell from a peak band of 60 to 77 on Google's 0 to 100 index to 27 to 33 in the last week of September, while the plain phrase marketing agency held between 37 and 63 across the same weeks. The two lines crossed in late August and marketing agency has sat above AI marketing almost every day since. That is our original number this week, read from Google Trends India on 30 September 2026, and it is the second piece of evidence in eight days that the AI label is losing pull with Indian buyers faster than the work behind it.

This is a Wednesday data post: the numbers, what they can and cannot mean, and what we are changing on our own site because of them.

What did Google Trends India show between July and September 2026?

We pulled two windows on 30 September, both with the region set to India. The first was the past 90 days, comparing the terms AI marketing and marketing agency. The second was the past 12 months, with AI agency added.

Term, IndiaWindowEarly July 2026Last week of September 202690 day average
AI marketing90 days60 to 7727 to 3343
marketing agency90 days52 to 6237 to 6348
AI agency12 months91 (late June peak; 100 was late November 2025)30 on 27 Septembernot comparable, different window

Read across the first row. AI marketing opened the quarter as the stronger phrase and closed it at less than half its July level. Marketing agency wobbled, as a steady phrase does, but its last week of September sat where its first week of July did. The crossover came in the last ten days of August, and from then on the plain phrase led on almost every day.

The third row is the sharper version of the same story over a longer window. AI agency, the phrase a founder types when the idea of an agency that runs on AI is new to them, peaked at 100 in late November 2025, peaked again at 91 in late June 2026, and sat at 30 on 27 September. Two spikes, each followed by a slide, and the second slide steeper than the first.

The original number. Google Trends India, 90 days to 30 September 2026: AI marketing averaged 43 and marketing agency 48, but AI marketing ran at 60 to 77 in early July and 27 to 33 in the last week of September, while marketing agency ran 52 to 62 in early July and 37 to 63 in the last week of September. The two lines crossed in late August. On a 12 month pull, AI agency peaked at 100 in late November 2025 and 91 in late June 2026 and sat at 30 on 27 September 2026. Logged as data ledger entry 53, read by our weekly intelligence crawl in two independent pulls.

What does a relative index mean, and what does it not?

Every number above is a position on a scale, not a count of searches. Google sets the busiest point in the window you choose to 100 and scales every other point against it, so 43 means less than half the quarter's peak interest and nothing more. The tool also recomputes on every pull, so the same comparison run today will differ by a few points. We ran it twice, independently, and the shape held both times.

Three things the data cannot tell you. It cannot say how many people searched either phrase, so nobody should quote these as volumes. It cannot say why the AI line fell, only that it did. And it cannot say whether the people who stopped typing AI marketing stopped caring about AI or simply stopped needing to look it up. The last of those is the question that matters, and the next section is our best reading of it.

Why would the AI label lose pull while AI use goes up?

Because labels and habits move in opposite directions once a thing becomes normal. Cloud9 Digital surveyed 523 businesses across India between October and December 2025, marketing managers, owners and agency leaders, and reported in 2026 that 78 percent of them already use AI for marketing in some form. A business that opened a tool last winter and uses it every morning has no reason to search for the phrase again. The searching was the learning; the learning is done.

What is left in the search box is the buying question, and the buying question in India has never been phrased with the acronym or the prefix. It is marketing agency, with a city or a trade attached. Our 2 October post showed the same pattern one level down: the term AI SEO averaged 2 against 31 for SEO over the same 90 days, and GEO's apparent volume turned out to be geography homework and a television channel. This week's crossover is the same finding at the level of the agency itself. The market is not asking for an AI agency. It is asking for an agency, and it expects AI to be in the kitchen, not on the sign.

There is a second, less comfortable reading. The June peak in AI agency and the July peak in AI marketing line up with a season of launches, courses and certification pushes, and the rising queries under those terms in the same Trends pull were dominated by quiz questions from training programmes rather than by buyers. Some of the July interest was people studying for a badge, not people with a budget. When the course ended, the line fell. A label that spikes with a syllabus is a label a buyer never owned.

What are we changing because of it?

Three things, two already done and one dated.

First, every post and page we have published since 2 October spells out search engine optimisation, meaning showing up on Google without paying per click, and AI search optimisation, meaning being the business ChatGPT or Gemini names, in plain words on first use. The acronym rule is now written into our daily publishing task so it cannot be skipped.

Second, the Monday shortlist on 5 October and the Tuesday preschool playbook on 6 October were both written around the words a buyer types, D2C marketing agency Hyderabad and preschool admissions, with the AI work described inside the method rather than in the title. That is the editorial version of the kitchen, not the sign.

Third, on 9 October we review the headline on our own SEO page against this data and against a clash it has with the headline on our AI search page. That review has been held to its date deliberately, so that the decision rests on three weeks of evidence rather than one chart. The SEO page and the AI search page are the two in question, and whichever way the decision goes, the reasoning will be published here.

What should you take from this if you run a business in Hyderabad?

If you are buying marketing, ignore the prefix. An agency that leads with AI is describing its tools; ask instead what it will do for your enquiries by month three and how it will show you. If you are selling marketing, the data says your customers have stopped typing your favourite adjective. Name the outcome and the city, and let the tools appear where they belong, in the paragraph about how.

If you want the rhythm behind this, the Marketing Operating System is how we keep reading numbers like these every week instead of once a quarter, and the AI search page explains the work itself without the acronym doing the selling.

How we read the data

Region India. Windows of 90 days and 12 months to 30 September 2026. Terms compared in the same chart so the index is shared, because Trends rescales each chart separately. Two independent pulls by our weekly intelligence crawl, logged as ledger entry 53 as relative values. The Cloud9 Digital figure is that firm's own survey, cited with its sample and dates; we have not verified its method beyond what it publishes.

Frequently asked questions

Does a falling Google Trends line mean people stopped using AI for marketing?

No. Trends measures what people type into Google, not what they do at their desks. A business that already uses an AI tool every day has no reason to search for the phrase AI marketing again. The line falling while use rises is exactly what you would expect once a label stops being new.

Is a Trends score of 33 a number of searches?

No. Every Google Trends value is relative: 100 is the busiest point in the window you chose, and every other point is scaled to it. A score of 33 means a third of that peak's interest, with no search count attached. We never turn an index into a volume, and you should not either.

Should a Hyderabad agency stop saying AI on its website?

Stop leading with it. Say what the work does, in the words a customer types, and mention the tools in the paragraph that explains how. Our 2 October post covers the naming in detail, and our own page headlines are being reviewed on 9 October against this data.

Where can I check this myself?

Open Google Trends, set the region to India and the window to the past 90 days, and compare the terms AI marketing and marketing agency. Then switch to the past 12 months and add AI agency. The shape you see will be the one described here, give or take a week of movement, because the tool recomputes the index on every pull.
