October 2026 closed with 3 returns in 39 non brand citation checks, against 10 in 41 for September. The three were the homepage twice on the Sainikpuri query and our own small business shortlist once, on 16 October, at position nine. The fifteen other queries returned nothing all month. That is the number. The story of the month is what replaced us: in three of our five query groups, the first page is now held by directories rather than by competing agencies, and in the last week of the month the site fell out of the sampled results for its own name while its DesignRush profile stayed in. This is the first of the monthly reports by query group we committed to on 21 October, and it closes October.

A word on the words. Search engine optimisation, SEO for short, is showing up on Google without paying per click. AI search optimisation, AIO on this site, is being the business ChatGPT, Gemini or an AI search tool names when someone asks a question. A citation check is our proxy for the second: a fixed query, run through a web search tool on a fixed day, with a note of whether any page of ours was among the sampled results. The method is in the 11 September post; the caveats are at the end.

The month by group

Query groupOctober checksReturnsWho held the field in the last week
Category (Hyderabad wide)71DesignRush and GoodFirms profiles, three checks running; the September listicles gone
Local (north Hyderabad belt)82Nothing from Hyderabad at all on the Sainikpuri query on 26 October; Delhi agencies and Odoo sites
Ownership (AI search terms)80Semrush Agency Partners, nine of nine results on the AI search query from 24 October; IRPR's city pages on the GEO query
Vertical (schools, clinics, manufacturing)30Moksha Media leads healthcare from 26 October, the first field change since July
International (UK, Dubai)130Semrush lists on the UK query; The Go-To Guy, a Hyderabad firm with a Dubai office, fixed on the Dubai query

Two things changed between the 21 October report and today. First, the ownership group turned from a competitor wall into a directory wall: RepIndia, ZeroAdo and FactoryJet, who had held AI search optimisation agency India for three months, were replaced in one week by nine Semrush Agency Partners list pages, for Hyderabad, India, New Delhi, Noida and small business. Second, the brand query lost its owned pages. On 9 October it returned three of ours, on 16 October four, and on 24 and 26 October none; the DesignRush profile led, followed by Digital Vriddhii, Vridhi AI, Vridhi Softech and Vridhi Home Finance, and the engine's summary warned readers not to confuse us with the first two.

The original number. In October 2026 to the 26th, blog/ai_citation_tracker.md holds 39 non brand citation checks and 3 returns, against 41 checks and 10 returns in September and 12 checks and 2 returns in the last week of August. By group in October: category 1 of 7, local 2 of 8, ownership 0 of 8, vertical 0 of 3, international 0 of 13. All 3 October returns came from the same 2 queries as every return since 26 August. The brand query returned owned pages on 9 and 16 October (3 and 4) and none on 24 and 26 October. The tracker's full count since 12 June stands at 150 checks and 16 returns. Logged as data ledger entry 71, derived from the tracker file, which anyone may read.

What the directory wall means

A competitor holding a result is a page you can out write, given time and links. A directory holding a result is a decision by the search engine that the best answer to the query is a list, and the list it trusts. In the AI search group that list is Semrush's. In the category group it is DesignRush and GoodFirms. In the international group it is Semrush again. The response to a directory wall is not a better post; it is a listing in the directory, accurate, with the site linked, so that the one result a buyer clicks leads to a page we control. We said as much to manufacturers on 20 October about IndiaMART and to clinics yesterday about Apollo 24|7 and Lybrate, and in the same week the lesson came home.

Our own reads make the point wider than us. Between 19 and 27 October we read 137 first page results across performance marketing agencies, manufacturers' products, Kompally trades, AI video studios and north Hyderabad doctors. Zero were a Hyderabad business's own website in four of those five reads, and nine in the fifth belonged to one hospital. The directories are not holding the field against us. They are holding it against everyone, and the businesses that break through, the hospital in Kompally, the dentists in A S Rao Nagar, did it with one page per thing a customer searches.

What changed on our side this month, and what did not

Changed: the homepage schema no longer describes the business as boutique, a word our own structured data was feeding the engine and our DesignRush profile was repeating, and the G2 profile joined DesignRush and Agency Spotter in the list of profiles the schema points to, so the engine can join them to the site. Five older playbooks and shortlists gained dated links forward to newer posts in the same vertical. The monthly report by group now exists.

Not changed, and on the founder's desk: the Sainikpuri pillar's title, which still does not carry the phrase the query uses, after seven local returns that were all the homepage; the DesignRush profile text; a listing in Semrush Agency Partners under AI optimisation, the only route into that nine of nine result; a line on the site distinguishing Vridhii Digital from Digital Vriddhii; and the two founding years the engine found on 9 October. Each is a small edit. Together they are most of what the brand group and the ownership group need, and none of them is a blog post.

What you should take from this if you run a business in Hyderabad

Group your searches before you read them. Ten queries read as a weekly number look like weather; the same ten read by group tell you whether a competitor, a directory or nobody is holding each one, and each of those needs a different response. If a directory holds yours, get listed, link the site, and make sure the page it links to answers the search by itself. If nobody holds yours, as nobody held the Kompally function hall search or the Sainikpuri gynaecologist search this month, one plain page puts you alone in the result.

How we ran the checks

Every check is a fixed query run through a US based web search tool that returns raw result links, not a synthesised chat answer, on Mondays and Fridays, with the brand query's summary read on purpose. October's Friday 23 run was made on Saturday 24 because the scheduled run did not fire on the day, and is logged as the Friday run. The group table counts the 39 October checks to the 26th; the June to August checks are inside the 150 total but not the group split, for the reason given on 21 October. The Marketing Operating System is the weekly rhythm that keeps this file honest, including in a month that closed at three.

Frequently asked questions

Why did October fall from September when the site published every weekday?

Because September's ten returns were mostly one third party listicle carrying our small business page for six consecutive checks, and when that list dropped out of the results on 25 September the returns went with it. October's three are two homepage returns on the Sainikpuri query and one return of our own small business page on 16 October. Publishing adds pages; it does not add age or inbound links to the pages that already exist, and those are what the two returning queries have.

What does it mean that a directory holds all nine results for a query?

That the search engine has decided the best answer to AI search optimisation agency India is a list, not an agency, and that the list it trusts is Semrush Agency Partners. A competitor can be out written. A directory cannot; the only way into its nine results is to be listed in it. We had written that query off as a three agency wall for three months and it changed shape in one week.

Why did the site vanish from its own brand query?

We do not know for certain, and two consecutive runs are not enough to say. What we can see is that the DesignRush profile, which uses the word boutique, has replaced the homepage as the first result, and that five companies with similar names fill the rest. Our own homepage schema also used the word boutique until 27 October, so the engine was reading it from us. That is fixed; the profile text and the similar names are not ours to fix.

What should a Hyderabad business take from this month?

Run the same ten searches on a fixed day each week and group them, because the group tells you who you are competing with. In three of our five groups this month the answer was a directory, and the response to a directory is a listing and a page it can link to, not a better blog post. Our reads of 19, 20, 22, 26 and 27 October found zero business owned websites in four trades across 137 results; the directories are holding the field for everyone, not only for us.
